- Interview: “Govt mishandled the GSP+ Issue” (Transparency International, October 2009)
“We have to realize that we are living in a different international order. Whether we like it or not the European Union is both politically and economically important for us. I do not mean to say that everything they do is correct. But we have to realize that we live in a different world. At a recent summit, Obama and the Russian President were both on the same wavelength when it came to Nuclear power in Iran. Similarly, China and the USA clash on other matters, but on trade, they see eye to eye because China cannot survive without the American market and the Americans cannot survive without Chinese money. Being a developing country, we have to be very careful in handling these matters. It is not the politicians or the bureaucrats who will suffer in the end, but the workers.”

- Interview: “We always think about self respect, not self interest” (The Island, July 2009)
“When the Sri Lankan government sells petrol at Rs 130, almost 50% is government taxes. They are selling gas at 1500 and about 20% of that (Rs 300) is government taxes. So people have not been given the benefit of world market prices.”

- Interview: “Govt has lost control” (The Island, May 2008)
“The UNP government of 2001-2004 ruled only for a very short period. But even ordinary people say that they were better off during that period. For the last eighteen months, the cost of living has been going up. Now, things seem beyond our control. I don’t think the government can control this inflation, and we seem to be going the way of Latin America in the 1980s.” - Dr Karunasena Kodituwakku
